Happytecture, the latest book from Counter-Print, features striking visual stories by photographers Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda
PhotographyPrintingPublishing

Spanish photographers Anna Devís and Daniel Rueda are the creative duo behind Happytecture. Their photographs featured in the new book feature humour and dynamic visuals, accompanied by playful surprises and a touch of whimsy. They use everyday locations and architecture as a place for creativity and exploration in storytelling.

Devís has a background as a designer and illustrator, bringing an artistic sensibility. Rueda, with a background in architectural photography, focuses on the technical aspects. The couple have a hands-on approach to the creative process, starting from a sketch to prop making or modelling, all the way to the finished project. They always work with natural light and, apart from some basic image processing, their scenes are created without the use of photo-editing software.

Devís explains that their work is ‘a game of perspectives where everything has to fit perfectly’. The book features three different series based upon photographs that Devís and Rueda have captured. The ‘Curiocities series’ brings imaginative and comedic compositions within the backdrop of anonymous buildings and was sparked by the duo’s shared interest in architecture. The ‘Pink-a-boo! series’ focuses on the location of La Muralla Roja, a postmodern apartment complex located in Calpe, Spain. And lastly, the ‘What the Hat?! series’ explores the link between fashion and architecture.

The book is published by Counter-Print, an independent British online bookstore founded in 2008 by Jon Dowling and Céline Leterme.

In the book Devís states, ‘Our goal is to brighten up people’s day … and show people that we can all find beauty in the ordinary around us.’
