Ceramic playground

A collaboration between Teikna Design and ceramicists Amodino Milano enhanced an analogue game experience

This unusual collaboration, devised for Milan Design Week last April, stemmed from a dinner between friends. When Teikna Design’s Claudia Neri got together with Annalia Luciano and Vittorio Giuffrida of handmade ceramics studio Amodino Milano, they focused on a project that would allow them to work in their preferred mediums – paper and ceramics. They approached the project with a light-hearted viewpoint and decided to centre their ideas around interactivity, games and ‘all things related to play’.

The main drive of the project, titled ‘The Games We Play’, was to create an immersive experience based in the Amodino Milano studio. Luciano and Giuffrida created custom ceramic board games, including chess, tangram puzzles, backgammon and dominos. For the design and visual identity of the project Neri designed notebooks inspired by each game, printed on Arena and myCordenons. She says, ‘I’ve always been obsessed with stationery products and beautiful paper.’

A key partner in the project was Italian printer Tiburtini, who produced the notebooks for the event. The paper for these notebooks was a key consideration. Neri chose myCordenons Reef for the stock’s ‘special unique tactile quality’, adding, ‘I’m a strong believer in the multi-sensory approach to design and printing’.

The collaborative and unique game plan of the experience created an atmosphere of fun and connection, adding an element of play to Milan Design Week 2023.
