Pulp 28 is here

Celebration and innovation
Graphic designInterviewsPackagingPrintingPublishing
Art editor Holly Catford at Grafiche Milani in Milan.

This edition of Pulp, Fedrigoni’s award-winning journal of people and paper, is all about celebration and innovation – from the Top Award ceremony and Fedrigoni Explore Creative Summit in Paris, via South Korea, featuring the imaginative approach of designers Sulki and Min, to the sustainable methods of Fedrigoni’s worldwide ‘strategic suppliers’ of raw pulp.

‘Form and meaning in Paris’ documents the lively atmosphere of the Fedrigoni Explore Creative Summit, along with the recognition of young talent and established designers for the Top Award, including first prize packaging winners (and cover stars) Italian Multiverse Studio with their Hera nei Campi rice packaging.

‘Read the room’ looks further into the Fedrigoni Explore Creative Summit activities, where Top Award jurors displayed ‘creativity in action’ with lively presentations and workshops, such as Simon Esterson’s talk about ‘Magazines: a new age’ and Italian graphic designer Silvana Amato’s presentation ‘Not just Bodoni’.

In ‘Just the two of us’, Pulp assistant editor Amy Henry writes about the Seoul-based design duo Sulki and Min, looking back at their practice over the past two decades and delighting in what’s to come as they continue to push creative boundaries.

‘Strategic suppliers’ is about the people and companies who make pulp from trees in Sweden and Brazil. We discuss the journey from seedling to tree to raw pulp: baled up, transported and ready for the paper mills.

‘Beyond the box’ features ‘eye-catching artefacts’ created by Italian luxury packaging experts Made[LAB], who innovate by pushing techniques to the limit.

‘The sound of design’ showcases Fedrigoni’s new video podcast and publishing guide, which features a diverse range of inspirational designers from around the world, including French graphic designer Fanette Mellier and British book designer David Pearson.

Pulp 28 was produced by the award-winning team behind Eye magazine and printed under the supervision of art editor Holly Catford at Grafiche Milani in Milan.

The issue’s pages were printed on Arena HD Extra White 140 g/m2, Freelife Vellum White 120 g/m2, Terrae Desert Sand 120 g/m2, with a cover on Broussulin XT Bianco 250 g/m2. The outer carton is made from Futura Denim 300 g/m2.
