Beauty by numbers

Inspired by the habitat of the region
Graphic designPackagingPrinting

Designed by Lisbon- based art director and communication designer Joana Areal, the 8950 skincare line for hoteliers extracts its essence from the mountains of Serra do Caldeirão in the northeast of the Algarve. Inspired by the natural habitat, the plastic-free packaging uses neutral tones and simple designs, favouring bare, uncoated textures of Materica Clay and Materica Pitch.

The minimalist style, paired with careful material considerations, further exemplifies 8950’s focus on sustainability. The company aims to support biodiversity through conscious plant nurture and pesticide-free cultivation. The brand also built a team of local experts and artisans, including a biological engineer, ceramist, perfumer and architect, to ensure that regional knowledge is at the centre of what it does.

Read ‘The beauty of understatement’ in Pulp 24, which includes links to more case studies.
