Symbols of the seasons

D&Co. studio’s 2023 calendar features an array of evocative seasonal illustrations
Graphic designIllustrationPrinting

The calendar, Visioni D’Attessa (Visions of Expectation), features twelve illustrated pages, each a tribute to how our senses connect us to the changing seasons. It has been self-produced in a limited edition of 50.

‘In 2022 we conducted research and analysis to choose an evocative symbol for every single month,’ says D&Co. art director Gianluca Gruarin. ‘A visual symbol that could ignite memories, emotions, rituals, gestures. Each symbol can activate a storytelling in heart and memory.’

A seasonal image accompanies each month, from a January snowflake and March flower, to a swimming pool in June and rain and fog in November, created using a variety of techniques including tempera paint, pastel, collage and digital illustration.

The result, writes Francesco Guazzoni in the text accompanying the calendar, reminds us of ‘when the snow gave us the freedom of shivers, when the watermelon seeds were spat out, or when we waited for the first dip in the pool.’

Each illustration also comes to life through a QR code which transforms the static picture into an animation.
