Print works

A smart, tactile portfolio sleeve houses showcases the print design skills of designer Aurélien Stein

Studio A. Stein is the graphic design practice of Dijon-based Aurélien Stein. While the studio often shows new work on its Instagram page – and a new website is forthcoming – Stein realised that the best format in which to display his print design was print itself.

A bespoke portfolio sleeve, foil stamped in a range of colours, holds digitally printed sheets of the studio’s work, selected according to the prospective client. ‘As I’m offering print design services it just makes sense to use a printed format to do it,’ he says. ‘Especially since I want to communicate my attention to detail, material choices, and embellishments. It comes as a natural addition to my website.’

The paper choice of Materica Pitch was the result of a long research process, Stein explains. ‘The portfolio has to be sent out to wine-growers, restauranteurs, architects – people who pay attention to natural materials, just as I do.’

With this in mind, his requirements were specific, he adds: ‘I was looking for a tactile dark grey paper, with a natural tint, not a neutral anthracite; the touch was very important, as was finding a recycled paper. Materica Pitch was perfect for what I wanted to communicate.’

Each Studio A. Stein portfolio is compiled depending upon the recipient, offering Stein a flexible system that can be updated regularly with new projects. The sleeve was printed by Imprimerie Chauvat-Bertau (ICB).
