The last goodbye

Lo Siento studio designs a poetic way to bid a final farewell to a loved one through a boxed writing kit

Barcelona based creative studio Lo Siento were asked by funeral events company En El Record to create an item for use in a mourning service. This challenging brief pushed the studio to create something special and meaningful.

The packaged writing kit named ‘L’ultim Adéu’ or the ‘Final Farewell’ is an object dedicated to the deceased, meant to be used by family and, as Lo Siento Creative Director Borja Martinez describes, the outcome ‘seeks to emotionally accompany the last moments of
farewell to a loved one’. Once filled in, the object is either placed beside the loved one during burial or burnt alongside them in a cremation service.

The package, which is finished with die-cutting and dry punching, uses Fedrigoni Materica Gesso paper. Martinez states, “On the cover of the pack we have a die-cut fingerprint in order to transmit the idea of “a personal mark”’.  He also comments on the selection of paper saying, ‘The fact that Materica is soft but also has a very good structure in its fibers to be able to apply reliefs and blind embosses pushed us to decide for this paper’.

The box contains the necessary materials to leave writings or dedications of all that is left to be expressed. The object is meant to make the funeral experience more compassionate and provide a semblance of closure for the family.
