Six scents

Fourteenth’s range of numbered fragrances are enhanced by some restrained and tactile packaging choices
Graphic designPackaging

Perfume brand Fourteenth produces pocket-size ‘solid’ perfumes, designed to be both portable and easy to apply. Each of its six fragrances, available as a perfume or interior fragrance spray, is numbered, with the packaging making use of large, illustrated numerals – from 2 through to 7 – on the boxes.

Young Jakarta-based designer Evan Wijaya used Sirio Black to enhance the tactile quality of the packaging, boosting its prominence with blind embossing.

‘The blind embossing was in the plan from the very beginning,’ says Wijaya. ‘As the product has the advantage of being small, it’s important that the outer packaging gives a strong impression and is able to show what is promised inside.’

Each number is hot-stamped with white foil to give stand-out contrast on the packaging and convey the Fourteenth messaging. ‘There are six different fragrances, marked with big numbers that are uniquely designed to represent the scent of each variant,’ says Wijaya.

Solid perfume – essentially a balm consisting of a fragrance and a moisturiser – is made from a mixture of essential oils and aroma compounds, fixatives and solvents.
