Founded with the aim of ‘design[ing] the ecosystem of brands and product packaging differently,’ Barcelona-based IPACKLAB aims to adhere to its pledge of dematerialising, says the studio’s Francisco Tornos. Its project for Jacoliva olive oil ensured that it marked a ‘return to the essence of nature-inspired design,’ he adds, where the creative process for designing the Coriana Collection was based ‘on the ecosystem of the olive grove and olive oil, one of the most sustainable products on the planet’. The bottle is made with 65-75% internal and external recycled material; the paper, vegetable-based inks and adhesive used for the labels are designed to reduce material consumption and emissions. Regarding the design, Tornos says that the bottle evokes the environment of the Coriana olive grove with its alluvial soil and boulders. ‘The curved, organic and liquid shapes perfectly convey the image of the liquid it contains,’ he says, and mirror the effect of olive oil when poured over a dish. Richard Buckminster Fuller’s mantra that ‘to design is to do the most with the least’ inspires the studio’s work.
