Founded in 2013 by David Gamarra and Eduardo Miravalles, Spanish design agency Vamos Estudio has had a proactive and dynamic approach to design challenges from the start, echoing the name chosen for the studio, which translates to ‘Let’s go’. With locations in Zaragoza and Barcelona, Vamos focuses on branding and communication and has experience in the world of packaging for the global wine industry. Their process varies depending on the project, but it always starts with in-depth research.
For Vamos’s award-winning Terroir labels for winery Celler Comunica, the studio channelled the idea of ‘coupage’, a term used in the wine industry to describe the ‘process of blending different wines to obtain a final product with specific and balanced characteristics’. Vamos brought this idea to life by using collage to visually illustrate the blend. Gamarra explains: ‘To capture the essence of the wine coupage, we devised a meticulous collage of papers of various hues and textures from Fedrigoni Self-Adhesives representing each of the grape varieties.’ The self-adhesive papers used on Terroir 41º 8′ 46″ N, 0º 49′ 12″ E are Materica Verdigris Ultra WS FSC™, Sacramento Cream Ultra WS FSC™, Tintoretto Cannella WS FSC™ and Sirio Pearl Red Fever FSC™.
Infographics on the labels showcase the percentage of each grape variety in the wine. The studio also used a die-cut on the top of the labels to mimic the Montsant mountain range in Catalonia where the wines originate. From a production standpoint, the label is pre-composed, mounted and die-cut on the roll synchronously so the four overlapping papers form a single label.
