As loyal Pulp Digital readers know, Pulp is a journal of people and paper, made for Fedrigoni by Eye magazine, and printed in Italy on a selection of different paper stocks from Fedrigoni’s wide range.
The magazine was founded in 2014 by editor John L. Walters, art director Simon Esterson and art editor Holly Catford in close collaboration with Fedrigoni colleagues worldwide. Over the past decade Pulp has published 27 issues, the latest of which celebrates ten years of Pulp, with great writing about projects and designers from around the world, including the UK, Canada, Brazil, France and of course Italy. Themes covered over the past decade include sustainability, digital printing, the move from plastic to paper, publishing, posters, packaging, food and drinks labels … and much more.
In 2022 the Pulp team – with the addition of Gabriela Matuszyk and Amy Henry – launched Pulp Digital (pulp.fedrigoni.com), which has now published nearly 300 stories.
On Tuesday 22 October at Fedrigoni’s UK office there will be a celebration of ten years of Pulp with the Pulp team – Simon, Amy and John – with short presentations from five special guests. These are: SEA founder and art director Bryan Edmondson (see Pulp 01); photographer Philip Sayer, who has shot many portraits, streetscapes and working environments for Pulp since the very first issue; Italian-born graphic designer Giulia Garbin (see Pulp nos. 06 and 24); Paul Regan, who represents Bermondsey-based digital printer F. E. Burman (see Pulp nos. 03 and 20); and Rob Lowe aka Supermundane, whose distinctive approach to illustration can be seen on the cover of Pulp 19.
