Pulp 26 – all about P2P

On its way, the latest edition of Fedrigoni’s award-winning journal is a Plastic to Paper special

‘The bar is increasingly set much higher in terms of what we need to do to defend our planet.’

This special edition of Pulp, Fedrigoni’s award-winning journal of people and paper, is dedicated to the theme of ‘plastic to paper’ (P2P). Now that brands, manufacturers, designers and producers worldwide are planning for a more circular, sustainable future there is an urgent need to change many of the materials we are used to using.

In ‘A manifesto for Plastic to Paper’, editor John L. Walters writes that the transition from plastic to paper is an unstoppable movement. Single-use plastics are the past; paper is the future. However, the present day is complex. Packaging expert Massimo Zonca, based at Fedrigoni’s new Innovation Center in Verona, explains why we should choose paper – a sustainably grown, renewable material – over plastic.

Pulp 26 features a ‘People and paper’ interview with Fedrigoni CEO Marco Nespolo, who states: ‘The bar is increasingly set much higher in terms of what we need to do to defend our planet.’

In ‘Around the world’, we hear from the thirteen Fedrigoni P2P ambassadors appointed to explain and promote the reality of moving from plastic to paper for their clients worldwide, plus sales manager Sarah Flower, who observes that P2P is being driven by consumers.

‘It’s our choice’ features some choice quotes from a recent London event about P2P, while ‘A new leaf’ is about the translucent, high-barrier paper Sylvicta, manufactured at Quzhou Mill in China. The issue is interleaved with nine varied case studies, examples of the more sustainable approaches to packaging and self-adhesives from many diverse sectors: from lingerie to soap; from Champagne to coffee.

The ‘Plastic to paper’ special issue of Pulp was produced by the award-winning team behind Eye magazine: editor John L. Walters with art directors Simon Esterson and Holly Catford and printed under the designers’ supervision at Grafiche Milani in Milan.

The issue’s pages were printed on Sirio Pearl Oyster Shell 125 g/m2, Materica Kraft 180 g/m2, Acquerello Bianco 160 g/m2, Materica Quarz 120 g/m2, with a cover on Splendorlux 1 Premium White 250 g/m2. The outer carton is made from Imitlin Allpack Tela E05 Blu Notte 350 g/m2.
