From beauty brands to elite screenprinter Lorenz Boegli, Pulp 24 takes readers on a journey through inspirational and innovative approaches to print, packaging and the use of quality papers and self-adhesives.

The eye-catching cover shows skincare packaging from The Seated Queen, balanced delicately atop a model’s head. (The brand is designed and art directed by Giulia Garbin, See Pulp 6.)

‘The beauty of understatement’, by Elizabeth Glickfeld, shines a light on the subtle and refined aesthetics of several beauty brands. This features a range of international natural, vegan and luxury soaps, skincare and perfume, whose minimalistic packaging enhances these premium products.

‘Black magic’, showcases the breathtaking screenprinting approach of Swiss mastermind Lorenz Boegli, whose innovative silkscreen work, much of it printed on black paper, is much sought after by the creative directors of big brands.

In ‘Think before you laminate’, the use of plastic lamination is challenged as a process that significantly increases the difficulty of recycling materials. In this ‘One green thing’ article, Chiara Medioli Fedrigoni is quoted recommending sustainable solutions such as Imitlin, which achieves the smooth ‘touch’ effect of lamination while being more sustainable.

Other articles in Pulp 24 include Mark Sinclair’s ‘Analogue treasure house’, which highlights the way independent magazines are thriving and evolving in the post-pandemic era. ‘Personal touch’ is a short report from the Top Award jury sessions in Verona, and showcases examples of the inspiring work awarded there.

Pulp 24 was produced in three editions and in five languages (Italian, English, French, Spanish and German) by the award-winning, UK-based team behind Eye magazine: editor John L. Walters, art director Simon Esterson and art editor Holly Catford. This edition was printed at Veronalibri in Italy using Symbol Tatami, Sirio Color Gialloro, Arena Rough Extra White, Splendorgel EW and Symbol Card Eco 100 for the cover. The postal packaging was made from Symbol Pearl Ice.
